Description
The city of Kuba is located in Azerbaijan, where some of the finest Caucasian
rugs are produced. The city is located in a historic Khanate or administrative
district not far from the Caspian Sea, and populated by the Lezghi people and
Azeri Turks. Kuba tribal rugs consist of a diverse set of highly detailed, often
floral designs that feature a large central medallion and a dark blue, or sky
blue field. Colors are rich and saturated, and feature a variety of symbols and
decorative motifs.
Rugs from the Kuba region are made from wool, though cotton is also used on rare
occasion. Kuba rugs in general are woven with symmetrical.
Kuba rugs are highly desired, superb examples of the Caucasian weaver’s art.
