Description

Caucasian Rugs are probably the most widely collected type of oriental rugs. Caucasian rugs derive their name from the area in which they were made–the Caucasus region of central Asia. This includes Kuba, Dagestan, Shirvan, Talish and Baku in the east, and Gange, Kazak, and Karabagh in the southwest.

This region has produced fine oriental rugs since the end of the 18th century. Rugs are typically village pieces, and are usually smaller in size than other types of oriental rugs. Caucasian carpets often feature floral designs, and their style is usually highly abstract or geometric, with considerable emphasis on rich and varied color.
