Description
Kazak rugs are Caucasian in origin, from the region encompassing Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. This cultural melting pot was populated by Armenian dyers and weavers, Azeri Turks, groups from the Northern Caucasus and minorities from the surrounding areas. Kazaks are distinctive in their geometric designs and symbolic motifs, often rendered in saturated reds and blues with ivory highlights or fields. They usually feature prominent central or pole medallions, and are adorned with crenelated borders, angular cloud bands, and an assortment of stylized figures, animals, and geometric polygons.
